Clinical Trials

We are getting really busy with the Clinical Trials and over the next few months we will be recruiting for quite a few Scleroderma and Pulmonary Hypertension studies. We are also expanding and will soon have a second Clinical trials nurse as well as the support of the specialist nurses who are also experienced in clinical trials.

Future trials:

We are currently recruiting patients for two Scleroderma studies which are due to start in the near future:

P144: A trial to evaluate the efficacy and safety of the topical application of the drug ‘P144’ for skin fibrosis in patients with Systemic Sclerosis.

Novartis Study: A trial to evaluate the efficacy and safety of an oral dose of ST1571 for diffuse patients with fibrosis.

We are also currently recruiting for a Pulmonary Hypertension study which is also due to start soon:

FREEDOM: The purpose of this study is to test oral Treprostinil in the treatment of Pulmonary Hypertension.

Ongoing Trials:

SSTEP: This is a five year trial, which started in 2002, looking at the use of Iloprost tablets in lowering the incidence of heart attacks, angina and strokes.

ARIES: A trial looking at the drug Ambrisentan in slowing down the progression of Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension.

RAPIDS-2: A trial looking at the use of the study drug Bosentan alongside a placebo for patients with digital ulcers.

Tadelafil: This study looks into the safety and efficacy of the drug Taldelafil in decreasing the symptoms of Pulmonary Hypertension.

TRIUMPH:
The purpose of this study is to test inhaled Treprostinil in the treatment of Pulmonary Hypertension.

Completed trials:

MQX-503: This was a Raynauds trial involving a topical gel formation of Nitroglycerine MQX-503, and matching placebo, to prevent Raynauds Phenomenon. This trial ended in February 2007 and we await the trial results.

ASSET 1 & 2: A trial that looked at the treatment of Pulmonary Hypertension in patients with Sickle cell, with the drug Bosentan. This trial ended in 2007.

STRIDE: A study to evaluate the long-term safety of the drug Sitaxsentan compared to Bosentan in patients with Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension. This trial is complete and Sitaxsentan has been licensed.
