Clare Elliott is the pulmonary hypertension specialist nurse. Pulmonary hypertension is a rare lung condition which sometimes occurs as a complication of scleroderma and Clare runs our specialist nursing services.

The Royal Free has been designated a specialist centre for the care of patients with pulmonary hypertension (along with only five others in England and Wales ). As a national centre we are able to offer the best available care and treatments for pulmonary hypertension. The service has grown and continues to expand constantly and, with the help of Joanna, Clare is now able to offer patients considerable support with their illness and treatments.

Many treatments for pulmonary hypertension are carried out at home by the patients themselves and this means that Clare and Joanna spend a lot of time teaching patients how to manage their therapy at home. They also stay in constant contact with patients at home offering support and reassurance.

Clare has recently started running an extra weekly clinic for the review of patients with pulmonary hypertension, ensuring that patients who require extra input from the team receive it.
